UPDATES TO GREEN HILLS RESPONSE TO COVID-19
With the re-opening of Ohio during this pandemic, here is the latest information to let you know how this affects Green Hills Community.
Many businesses may be opening; however Green Hills Community is not one of them. Because we serve a vulnerable population, we expect that it may be awhile, maybe months, until we see restrictions lifted for visitors.
We understand the hardship that this creates for you and your loved ones but we must follow guidance established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Logan County Health District. We must follow their guidance to keep the residents and our staff safe.
We still encourage you to reach out to residents with telephone calls, cards and letters, and video chats. If you need help setting up a video chat, please call our activities department for assistance. The telephone number is 937.650.7132. Please call between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to arrange the video chat. Letters and cards are welcome for any residents.
This is what we are doing to protect the residents of the Inn and the Care Center:
* We have restricted visitors based on guidance, including any non-essential personnel;
* We have changed processes so that vendors who are delivering supplies do not have to enter the building;
* All staff are screened when they come to work for temperature or COVID-19 symptoms;
* All staff are wearing face masks with goggles or face shield to prevent any possible spread of the virus to the residents or each other;
* Residents have been provided cloth masks to wear when they are outside their room;
* All group activities, like church services, have been cancelled until further notice, but we have allocated additional staff to increase one-on-one activities;
* All public events in Foundation Hall are cancelled until further notice;
* Residents have in-room dining in place of eating together in the main dining rooms;
*Encouraged staff and residents to practice social distancing;
* The health of all residents is monitored daily for COVID-19 symptoms;
* We are utilizing telehealth whenever possible for physician consultation;
* Any resident who exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, shortness of breath, muscle aches, coughing) are isolated and tested.
* As a precaution, all new admissions to the Care Center or the Inn are isolated for 14 days;
* Relationships that we established over the years have become solid partnerships in working together during this pandemic battle. The Logan County Health District has provided us with COVID-19 testing kits. The tests are then processed at Mary Rutan Hospital or sent to the Ohio Department of Health for results; and
* We recently processed our first batch of N-95 masks from Battelle in Columbus where they were decontaminated with their new process to extend the life of the masks in this time of PPE shortages.
This is what we are doing to protect the staff on the main campus and those with Universal Home Health and Hospice:
* COVID CareLine toll-free number established to address their mental health during this time of fear and anxiety;
* United Way @ Work program to help them navigate resources available as many spouses are off work;
* Collecting non-perishable food items for staff households that may be affected by layoffs;
* Temporary Pandemic Bonuses are paid out through May 9, with possible extensions, for going above and beyond for our residents, clients, children, and each other; and
* Expanded Paid Time Off benefits to allow staff to avoid a financial incentive for them to report to work when they are sick.
This is what you can do to support the residents and staff:
* Send notes of encouragement to staff to let them know you appreciate the work they are doing;
* Send cards or letters to any residents to let them know they are not alone;

Every day we are gaining new wisdom, discovering new ways to do things, uncovering staff talents and re-allocating our resources to best adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. We are committed and determined to do our best to come together for the health of everyone.
Please drop off items during designated hours to avoid pulling direct care staff away from their duties. Those hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Items can be dropped off at the Inn between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) has been covered a lot in the news lately and we understand you may be concerned about how this might affect your health and the health of your loved ones. We want to assure you that infection control and surveillance for COVID-19 is our top priority. Please know that:
- We are staying informed about of COVID-19 by working directly with our local health department, the Ohio Department of Health, and our Medical Director.
- We have an Infection Preventionist on staff who works directly with these officials.
- We have established infection control protocols that have been reviewed by Ohio Department of Health to ensure it meets CDC guidance.
- We are experienced in dealing with communicable diseases, like the flu and pneumonia virus, that cause respiratory symptoms like this COVID-19.

What should I know about the COVID-19?

- Symptoms include mild to severe respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath
- The virus spreads from person-to-person like the flu such as when someone doesn't cover their sneeze or wash hands.
What can I do to protect myself and my loved ones?
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
